2011 District OAP contest information
NEW THIS YEAR - Community Standards Compliance Form that must be signed and
returned to the UIL office and a copy taken with you to contest. You will
see instructions on how to print this form on the online entry system when you
enter you eligibility from online, you can also find the form on the UIL
website. YOUR PRINCIPAL NO LONGER HAS TO VERIFY YOU ELIGIBILITY FORM BY
SIGNING INTO THE ENTRY SYSTEM.
2. Please mail a two copies (one for the judge and one for music timing) of your original cut scripts to Tony Williams
by Monday, March 1, for scripts to
be mailed to the judge to review before the contest. If you do not send in your
script in time it will be the responsibility of the director to send it directly
to the judge. Please keep in mind that the script needs to be an original
(non typed) script that is marked with your cutting and sound cues. Public
Doman scripts may be copied or typed.
Please mail two copies of your original script cutting to me at

If you are not able to get your script to me by March 1, please mail one
script directly to the judge and bring your second script with you to the
site rehearsal. If you are mailing your script directly to the judge please
indicate the script is for District 26 AA contest at Industrial High School, in
Vanderbilt Texas, on Saturday, April 2.
Please mail your script directly to the judge (_____________), be sure to include which contest the script is connected to 2A, Area 2, Region IV in Vanderbilt. The judge's address is located on the UIL drama wesbite's judges page.
4. Please ask your students entering, the theater, during a performance to sit in the back of the auditorium and not walk all the way down to the front row.
5. Also, remind your company to be SILENT in the
lobby of the theatre as sound goes through air vents, in the lobby, directly
into the theater.

Critic Judge:
Mark Pickell
Mark has participated in the OAP process
as a student, director, and judge at every level of the competition. As a
director he appeared at the state meet twice, placing 2nd in 2004. He also
appeared twice at the state meet as a student. He was honored to serve as a
critic judge at the State One-Act Play Competition in 2010.He holds a BFA with
honors from Southwestern University in Georgetown. He is a member of the TETA
Adjudicators Organization's Standards and Practices Committee as well as the UIL
Advisory Committee. He has acted and directed professionally in Houston and
Austin. He has received both a B Iden Payne Award and an Austin Critics' Table
Award for his directing in Austin. He currently serves as Artistic Director for
Capital T Theatre in Austin, Texas.

STAGE/AUDITORIUM

* Large (50’x 35’)
fully functional theater (no
fly system).
to create a smaller playing area.
* Theater seats 900.
* Loading dock door, at rear of theatre, for easy load in.
* All curtains pull from the SL wing.
* Restrooms available on
stage (SR wing), in the lobby and near your dressing rooms.

for you props, furniture, etc. will be in the theater classroom, which is
located directly behind the back wall of the stage.

SOUND:
*HOUSE SOUND SYSTEM is located in
the back of the theatre
*Bose Panaray speakers (two location of speakers: one set on the back wall of
the theatre and one set in front of the stage).
*Bose Subwoofer
*System can play mini-c/d, c/d, tape, and you can plug you own player into the
system, if needed.
*Each school is welcome to bring you own sound system if the house system does
not meet your needs.
*Headsets for backstage
communication, available if needed.

LIGHTS:
*Light cues
can be programmed into light board prior to your site rehearsal, if possible or
during your site rehearsal. You may also run your lights manually.

*Control area for lights
is located at the back of the auditorium.
*The
stage will be have 9 light areas, and a blue and red wash (Click
for light Plot).

UNIT
SET AND STORAGE:
Industrial
High School will provide the standard UIL set.
Door and window unit,
and French door
are available. Storage space is
not
very
limited. You
will be able to move your props and furniture back to the storage area after
your performance.

DRESSING ROOM:
*All schools will have
a private lockable dressing room.

REHEARSAL: Please contact Mr. Doggett arrange
your rehearsal time. Industrial will take the last available time slot.

*Anyone that would like
to come to the theatre before your site rehearsal to look at light or do
whatever is welcome to do so - email Mike Doggett to arrange a time.
*Any
conflict with rehearsal time will be broken with distance between schools and
Vanderbilt. Schools closer to Vanderbilt will rehearse at earlier
times. We will try to meet all director preferences, if possible. (Industrial
will take whatever rehearsal time is left over allowing all other school to pick
first)
*Set
up time will not start until all of your things have been moved to the center of
the stage. Set up time will stop when all items are relocated back in the center
of the stage. You will then be able to move your things back to storage and or
back to your dressing room.
*Spike tape will be provided at the site rehearsal, by Industrial

The theatre will be open to
audience members coming in late. There have been improvements to the
theater where light does not entire the theater, when the lobby doors are open.
DIRECTORS PLEASE ASK YOUR STUDENT AND PARENTS TO SIT IN THE BACK OF THE
AUDITORIUM IF ENTERING LATE.

SITE CREW:
A site crew
from Industrial High School will be on hand to offer technical assistance.
Light board and sound will be operated by a competing school’s stage
crew. Students from each school's
crew will operate the curtain backstage. If the site crew pulls a school's
curtain or does any other technical operation a member of the cast or crew must
give vocal instruction on every detail of the cue(s).

ADMISSION:
$5.00 Adults & Students $3.00

AUTHORIZED AND UNAUTHORIZED PERSONNEL:
In
accordance with UIL regulations, only students listed on the official
Eligibility-Notice (except alternates) may be in dressing rooms or on the stage
area. Only eligible students may
participate in any capacity as members of the contest company.
This includes helping with costumes and make-up during the rehearsal or
performance time at the contest site.
Further,
the Area Meet prohibits all unauthorized personnel from the backstage,
stage, or dressing room areas. Unauthorized
personnel are defined as alternates, parents, friends, colleagues, or other
persons not specifically authorized by UIL rules and/or director of the one-act
play contest.
The announcement of advancing plays, the presentation of awards, and oral critiques will follow the last performance as soon as the judge is ready with the decisions. All casts are encouraged to stay for the critique of all plays.
