REHEARSAL RULES AND GUIDELINES
Fall Play Rehearsal Attendance Chart
Consider rehearsal like having a job, if you
don't go to work you must call in or you might get fired.
Rehearsal is the same way, if you are going to miss a rehearsal you MUST let Mr.
Doggett know ahead of time.
You can email or call the school (284-3226
ext 1222), if Mr. Doggett doesn't answer, leave a message on his voicemail.
You will be okay as long as you call in or email before rehearsal starts.
"My alarm didn't go off" or "I over slept" is not an excuse.
Please remember that your rehearsal attendance and punctuality is being keep
track of and will count against when it comes time for one-act play auditions.
Actors and Tech Crew member also take the chance of losing his or her role or
tech job if you miss rehearsal and do not let Mr Doggett know ahead of time or
if you miss too many rehearsal.
REHEARSAL TIMES Rehearsals for
the Fall play will be at 6 AM daily. As long as we are on schedule I will
try to give Friday's off.
If we get behind we will have to rehearse on Friday. If we get ahead we
can pull back and have less rehearsal time.
BE ON TIME Please be at
rehearsal on time and ready to begin at 6AM. That means eating breakfast
before you get to school.
Being ready at 6AM means you will have to get here a few minutes before 6 AM.
IF YOU'RE LATE If you are running
late please do not SPEED and endanger yourself, I would rather you be late than
have an accident because of high speed.
FOG you will run into fog on
certain days, and I understand that you might not know it is foggy until you
leave the house - so PLEASE drive slow and be safe,
I expect most everyone to be late on Foggy days.
GET TO BED EARLY This is the best way to be successful with rehearsal, grades and keeping up with other activities. If you go to bed at least on hour early it will do you a world of good. Please do not come into the theatre and go back to sleep.
GRADES Remember if you do not pass the 1st six week you will not be allowed to be in the play. Fall Play is just like any other extra-curricular activity.
HOMEWORK Stay on top of your
homework, get it done early each day, don't put it off until the last minute.
Bring your homework to rehearsal and if
you are having trouble in a class I will give you time to work on your
assignments and get help from other theatre students who can help you.
ATTITUDE A positive attitude
is everything. Unlike previous years, negative, disrespectful attitudes
will NOT be tolerated.
This consists of negative comments and non-verbal body language (like rolling
eyes) or negative type scoffing type noises.
Students who are rude or disrespectful to directors should not expect to be a
part of the one act play and will be removed from the current production.
Mr. Doggett is always willing to help students with problems and conflicts so long
as a positive attitude is used.
OFF STAGE DRAMA Student who
can't get along with other students or directors or feel the need to cause
excessive drama within the company will be removed from the production and will
not be allowed to have an official role or crew assignment during the next
production or OAP. Backstage drama is talking backstage, loud enough
to be heard in the audience, not following directions from the stage manager,
being violent, arguing with fellow cast or crew, leaving the stage and your
acting role or tech assignment during a production.
AFTER REHEARSAL Please make sure
all food containers are thrown in the trash , COSTUMES are hung up PROPERLY with
props, hats and shoes in the proper place and the class room is ready for its
first period class before you leave.
REMEMBER: UIL will only
allows four tech crew members so fall play is your opportunity to prove to me
that you deserve one of those four spots. Here are a few tips: always be
on time, be at as many rehearsals as possible, be able to follow direction (with
a positive attitude), clean up after yourself and produce quality work and
remain eligible. If you lose your eligibility during the contest season
you will not be eligible to be in the OAP the following year. If you lose
your eligibility during the fall play and can't perform you will not be eligible
to be in the one act play the following semester.
QUESTIONS:
Do you have any question? If so,
please email Mr. Doggett
ACTING
NOTES
Actors please read this -- it will really help you!!!!
ALL FALL PLAY ACTORS AND TECHIES NEED TO READ THIS!
HOW
TO BE A PRODUCTIVE MEMBER A PRODUCTION.
You are always on audition. If you plan on being a member of the UIL one-act play or any other production you need to follow the items below.
1.
A positive attitude is
everything!
Treat your fellow actors and
director with respect. If we don’t
all get along there is no way we can produce successful theatre.
2.
If you think this is something you do not want to do – please
remove yourself quickly, because the longer you wait to leave the harder it is
on the production and your fellow actors.
3.
Don’t create problems --
create solutions.
4.
Be on time for rehearsal.
If you are going to miss or be late call or email me.
361-676-6100 (cell) & 284-3131 (home) Theatre Phone with answering
machine (284-3226 ext 1222) or email at MDogit@aol.com.
This needs to happen prior to rehearsal.
5.
Be ready to rehearse at
6.
THE HARDER WE WORK THE
LESS WE WILL REHEARSE!
If you work hard and fast I
will reduce rehearsal time. That is
a promise! If you don’t we will
have to work longer. I don’t like
early morning rehearsal either!
7.
The director should not
have to tell you to warm up.
8.
Listen to your stage
manager and or assistant stage manager
they are giving you direction directly from the director.
They will respect you please respect them back.
9.
Check the theatre
web/call board page everyday.
I will post scenes to be worked on for the day. If you are not called you
do not have to come to rehearsal. www.iisd1.org/hs_theatre
-- If you do not have an internet connection call someone.
10.
Always bring a pencil and your script to rehearsal.
11.
Pay attention during
rehearsal.
Know when it is your time on stage. Do not have the director or stage
manager have to come find you.
12.
Be a directable actor!
13.
There is a time for everything.
Please learn when it is time to focus.
14.
NO HORSE PLAY OR TALKING
BACKSTAGE DURING REHEARSAL.
15.
Your goal as an actor is to always
take risks, find new ways of doing things
– be creative don’t be afraid to try something new.
16.
BE BIG!
In all your acting choices and with your voice.
Your goal as an actor should be to have the director tell you to turn it
down (vocally and physically), but don’t be so big that you are not
believable. Actors that cannot be BIG will not be part of the one act play.
17.
YOUR CHARACTER MUST BE BELIEVABLE,
REAL, AND HONEST.
18.
NEVER use the word CAN’T.
We can do anything in theatre with our imagination.
19.
Your creative ideas are always welcome and encouraged – but
remember the director has the final say.
20.
ALWAYS hang up your
costume, put your shoes away in the proper place and take care of your props.
21.
NEVER TOUCH ANYONE’S PROP
– EVER!
22.
DO NOT GO INTO THE PROP ROOMS AND GET ANYTHING WITHOUT PERMISSION!
23. ACTORS and TECHIES are
equals.
Theatre would not happen without both working together to create ART!
24.
Learn your lines by the
“lines off” date.
You will not be able to work well on stage until your hands and focus are
free of the script.
25.
DO NOT BREAK CHARACTER!
Those actors who break
character will not be a part of the next production or may be removed from this
production.
26.
You MUST maintain
passing grades in all classes to participate in theatre
Any actor or technician that becomes ineligible during the contest season will
not be eligible to be a member of the cast or official crew the next year.
Those individual will be able to be alternates. .
It’s just like sports. NO PASS, NO PLAY & NO PASS, NO ONE-ACT PLAY!
27.
Bring your homework to rehearsal; there will be times you can work
on it.
28.
Seniors lead
well, the underclassmen are watching
and so am I. If you don’t lead I
will look to underclassmen for leadership.
29.
Give equal time to all
activities (band/sport etc.).
I will be flexible but remember when I give I expect you to give back.
30.
Techies: keep quite backstage or in the classroom while you
are working– always have all doors closed, if you do not have anything to do
come and ask me,
31.
Measure twice, cut once
–lumber is not cheap!
32.
Eat breakfast before you come to morning rehearsal – or
have it finished when warm ups begin.
33.
DO NOT horseplay in
the class or wings, if you have nothing to
do work with another crew.
34.
Watch the time and clean up
completed so you will not be late to class.
Clean up means putting up all your tools and leaving the theatre
classroom ready for me to teach class in.
35.
Those techies that work the hardest will be ones that are picked
for UIL OAP – remember the State will only allow 4 techies participate
backstage in OAP.
36.
Remember problems CAN’T be
solved with communication. MY DOOR IS
ALWAYS OPEN, COME AND TALK TO ME!
37.
Have FUN
– if this is not fun it is not worth doing – but remember we do have a
goal of a producing a quality production – and if we don’t, that certainly
will not be any fun.
38.
If
you break it - fix it (if you can), if you mess it up - clean it up, if you get
it out - put it up!!
Together we create MAGIC! Our goal is to create and tell an entertaining story to our audience through believable acting, well built sets and precise technical execution. If all of this happens we will be successful and remember: The toughest thing about success is that you've got to keep on being a success.
