In
his 14th year of teaching and starting his 11th year at Industrial High School where
he teaches Theatre Arts and Speech Communications. Mike Doggett is head of the Fine Arts
Department, and Web Master for the
district. Before coming to Industrial, Mr. Doggett taught two years at
Odessa High School and one year at San Angelo Central High School.
Receiving a bachelors degree in theatre and speech communication from Southwest
Texas State University (1988) and his Masters degree in directing from Baylor
University (1997), Mr. Doggett is a native of the Temple/Rogers area and
graduated from Rogers High School in 1983.
Mr. Doggett has worked and directed professionally in Dallas with the Greater
Tuna Corporation and at the Plano Children's Theatre. He directed the
world premiere production of Salado
Legends, an epic outdoor musical drama about the history and pre-history
of Central Texas. He directed the production for a total of 8 years. The
production stars over 200 actors, technicians, and animals and is in it 15th
year of performance. He has served as artistic director for Tablerock
Amphitheater in Salado and was on the board of directors for ten years.
Mr. Doggett has also worked professionally as the technical director at
the Cultural Activities Center in Temple, Texas and was a member of the board of
governors for the Globe of the Great Southwest, in Odessa, Texas.
Mr. Doggett has directed over 80 plays and musicals throughout his career
with actors from all levels (K-12, college, community, as well as professional
levels). Mr. Doggett's students have experienced many successes over the past
ten years in the area of prose interpretation (recently students won 2nd and
4th at the state prose interpretation contest), and in the UIL one-act
play contest, winning many individual acting and technical awards along with
numerous advancing play awards.
In 2000, his production of Picnic
won third place at the Texas state one-act play contest in the 3A division and
in 2004 his production of The
Voice of the Prairie advanced to the state meet, in the 2A division. His
students have won the group technical award in all but one contest in which it
has been awarded. Mr. Doggett is also
a member of the UIL Advisory Committee and is the Communication Chair
for the Texas Educational Theatre Association.
