Salado Legends follows the history of the founding of Salado, TX. One of the original songs, "Be Careful What You Wish For," weaves the legends of the Tonkawa Indians, the dreams of the Spanish Explores and the hopes of the Scottish settlers, into a panoramic tale that encompasses the Civil War.

"Salado Legends" is the only outdoor drama in the state of Texas to be chosen by the Library of Congress Bicentennial celebration to serve as a record of life in America at the end of the 20th century. Out of 124 outdoor dramas in the United States, four were chosen by the Library of Congress to "preserve our nation's diverse cultural traditions for generations of Americans, present and future." The four outdoor dramas chosen were: "Blue Jacket" and "Tecumseh" in Ohio, "The Lost Colony" in North carolina and "Salado Legends" in Texas. A reception for the 1,190 Local Legacies projects chosen from all 50 states, Guam, American Samoa, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands will be held in Washington D.C. on May 23, 2000. Attending the celebration are Jackie Mills, "Salado Legends" playwrigh;, Nancy Mackey, representing "Salado Legends" sponsor Scott and White Hospital & Clini;c and actress Erin Miller, UT-Austin, Aeronautical Engineering student, who has appeared in the play since she was eleven years old. Three actors from this years 8th annual performances, Blake Simmons, Lee Lauback and GiGi Camacho will also attend the celebration in Washington D.C. Congressman Chet Edwards who sponsored "Salado Legends" in the Local Legacies project announced, "I am very pleased to see the work of "Salado Legends" included in this prestigious national project. It is a tribute to the creators, cast, crew and contributors of this historical musical drama to be selected." |
