Play reading - the class will be reading the play The Trip to Bountiful by Horton Foote
| Wednesday 1/8/04 |
Picture
Monologue - the class will pick a picture from the ones provided by Mr.
D.
After the picture has been picked each student will write a one minute original monologue from the perspective of the person (or one of the people) in the picture. Keep in mind the monologue should be in first person and don't forget that any story, play, monologue etc. has three main parts: 1. The Beginning - where you establish who you are and the given circumstances of the scene or monologue. Given circumstance being those things that we need to know to understand the world of the scene or monologue. Things like character traits, mood, place, time, setting, etc. 2. The Middle - The is where some sort of conflict happens. Your character should have something that he or she wants but there are obstacles standing in the way of them getting what they want. What is it your character wants and what is standing in the way of you getting it? 3. The End - At the end of your scene or monologue you will have a discovery or a resolution of the action. Did you get what you wanted??? Does everyone live happily ever after??? or not? Or is there an open ending where the resolution of the action is left up to the audience to decide. *** Be creative with your picture Monologue--- the only limitation is
your imagination. Have fun with this assignment -- your monologue
can be fun or sad or both -- your choice. |
|
| Thursday 1/9/04 |
Today
will be given to the student to develop their picture monologues.
Rehearsal time will be given on Monday and Performance of you monologues will begin on Tuesday of next week |

Select scene from the play and a group of actors that will play all the roles in your scene. Groups can be two to four people -- more or less will need teacher approval. Pick a scene that has distinctive beginning and ending. All actors should have approximately the same about of lines. After the scene and group are picked the group must decide which actors
will play each part. |
|
| Thursday 10/30/03 |
Today each student will copy their scene down on their own page. You will not be able to use scripts during class rehearsal. Each student must copy all lines in the scene (not just your own). You do not have to copy stage directions. Please copy the scene so it can be read during rehearsal.

Pantomime
Scenes - Each person is to create a scene using between 2 and 4
actors. You are to write the scene in third person -- each person
will narrate their own story with actors pantomiming all the
actions. Be sure to include as many (as you can) different types of
actable objects, movements, and emotions for you actors to act out.
Scenes must be two pages (written) and must be completed before the end of the period. |
|
| Tuesday 10/21/03 |
Pantomime Scenes - Today we will take each scene and the author will narrate it while actors of the author's choice use pantomime skills to act out the actions.
| Wednesday 10/22/03 |
Hesitation-
This activity starts with a simple two or three person scene based on a
suggestion from the audience. The twist is that players must occasionally
stop to get a word from the audience. This word is the next word that must
come out of the player's mouth. The player's job is to try to make that
word make sense in the scene. For example, a player is working to fix a
car engine and he says, "Hand me that . . ." and tosses his hand
out for a word. The audience comes back with "St. Bernard." The
player might say, "Hand me that St. Bernard cask, this is thirsty
work." or "Hand me that St. Bernard size wrench, I going to need
it."

| Thursday 10/23/03 |
Supprize
Party:
Supprize Party is a guessing game. An audience member is chosen to host a party - and is promptly taken out of listening range. Five "guests" are then chosen. Each guest is then endowed by the audience with some odd-quirk or physical deformity (examples: has three legs, is cheese-a-phobic, screams whenever verbs are spoken, etc.) The host then returns and, one by one, the guests arrive. It is the task of the host to guess the quirk of each guest. The guests must act out their personal quirk, but are forbidden from directly mentioning what it is. This rule holds for any part of the quirk (i.e. a guest with three legs cannot say "Look! I'm wearing three shoes!!") When the host correctly guesses the quirk of the guest, that guest leaves the party and the next guest enters. The only special rules are 1) If the host guesses part of the quirk, then the guest can directly mention that part (i.e. (Host) "You have three feet??" (Three legged guest) "No, but I have three of something below the waist.") - 2) if the host is having a particularly hard time guessing the quirk, another guest can enter the party to help give clues. The game ends when the host has correctly guessed all the quirks. |
